The push to decriminalize marijuana in this province has kicked off with one key voice still on the sidelines.

A day after Sensible BC's petition drive became official, today marks the three-year anniversary of Marc Emery's sentencing in US federal court for selling pot seeds over the Internet.

Supporters are marking the occasion by mounting a telephone campaign to bring home BC's self-styled "Prince of Pot."

"We know that the US government has already approved Marc's transfer request to finish his time at home in Canada, now the Canadian public safety minister needs to sign off," says Emery's wife, Jody.

She is urging supporters to phone, write, or email Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney to process his transfer documentation.

"There isn't a deadline, however, so we just need a lot of political pressure," says Jody, who adds not only does Marc he meet all the criteria for transfer, he's due to come home next July anyway.

"So, Canada may as well bring him home so he can be closer to me and his loved ones," she adds.

"He has a deportation order that basically says, 'Marc Emery, you're in the United States without a visa and without permission, you gotta get outta here!'"

She claims even jail staff don't know why he's still there.

"All of the people working there, they ask him, 'What are you doing here? Why are you here? We know what your charge is but it's ridiculous!'"
