RCMP Look Into Link Between Drug Busts

RCMP in New Brunswick are exploring whether or not there is a link between a large marijuana growing operation busted on the weekend near Moncton and another big haul made last week in the Annapolis Valley.

"It's always a possibility," said Sgt. Dave Mazerolle of Richibucto RCMP. "We're exploring that." The New Brunswick raid saw 19,000 plants seized from a field in Adamsville, about 45 kilometres northwest of Moncton. Last week, 9,000 plants were taken from two fields at a farm in Torbrook, Annapolis County.

Two Asian men were arrested in New Brunswick. In the Annapolis Valley, 41-year-old Chi Keung Mak, also of Asian descent, was arrested and charged with cultivation of marijuana and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Sgt. Mazerolle said the New Brunswick raid did not come as a result of information from the Valley raid.

Mr. Mak made a brief court appearance in Annapois Royal court on Monday. A bail hearing has been put over until Friday while his lawyer waits for more Crown disclosure of information on the case.
