S.D. Group Plans Campaign For Medical Marijuana

The group promoting a South Dakota ballot issue that would allow marijuana to be used for medical purposes has spent very little money so far on its campaign.

But the chairman of the group, Emmett Reistroffer (RYS'-trahf-ur) of Sioux Falls, says he expects the campaign could wind up spending a lot of money for advertising and voter education before the November election.

The campaign committee reported spending just $1,644 and getting another $2,800 in services from supporters by late June. Opponents of the medical marijuana measure have not yet formed any campaign committee.

A similar measure failed after getting 48 percent of the vote in the 2006 election.
