Little Rock, Arkansas - The group behind a second medical marijuana ballot initiative submitted their signatures on Friday, but an initiative to legalize recreational pot did not get enough signatures by the deadline, officials say.

Signatures for the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment are now being verified by the Arkansas Secretary of State's office.

A group pushing for The Arkansas Cannabis Amendment, which would legalize both recreational and medical marijuana, said it did not gather enough signatures before the deadline.

On Thursday, the Secretary of State's office announced that the first group to submit their signatures for a medical marijuana ballot initiative had succeeded in their efforts, and the Arkansas Medical Cannabis Act would appear on the November ballot.

If they have enough signatures, the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment will become the second marijuana-related initiative on the November ballot.

The main difference between the Arkansas Medical Cannabis Act and the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment is that the act would allow Arkansans to grow their own plants for medicinal purposes. The amendment would only allow medical marijuana to be sold by dispensaries. The act would also set up dispensaries.
