On my first grow in my outdoor garden. Looking for advice on where to buy mulch to cover top of pots somthing I can get at hardware store ?and what kind and what to avoid ?

Straw works. Better than hay. If the farmer who delivers it to the hardware store is lazy, it might smell like cow piss though. They don't always bother to hose out their truck between a cattle run and a straw run, lol.

You can also make a big tube of poultry netting (aka "chicken wire"), plant a potato in the ground, put the tube over it and, as the potato plant grows, keep piling straw into the tube (remember to leave the ends of the plant uncovered). At the end of the growing season, you won't need any tools to harvest your potatoes, just reach into the straw and pull them out. They won't be covered in dirt, either.
