Tennessee men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl has suspended senior forward Jemere Hendrix indefinitely from the team for violation of team rules. Pearl said whether or not Hendrix returns to the team is up to him. During the suspension, Hendrix won't practice with the Vols, nor will he have any contact with the team. His locker has been cleaned out.

Hendrix was arrested on Aug. 13 near his hometown of Covington, Ga., and charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession and driving without a license.
Pearl said the arrest was just part of a culmination of things that led to Hendrix's suspension. Formal practice doesn't begin until October, but Pearl is allowed two hours of instruction per week with the players until then.

"We'll look at it again when we get started and see where he is," Pearl said. "It really depends on him." The 6-foot-8 Hendrix started in three games last season and averaged 2.6 points and 2.7 rebounds. He's primarily a defender and rebounder, although Pearl said Hendrix had made good progress during the offseason.

Hendrix and Major Wingate are the Vols' only two returning post players, although Andre Patterson can play both inside and outside. With Hendrix's return in question, that means incoming freshman Ryan Childress will have to play major minutes this season.
