Trim for making salve

I'm going to be making a salve for someone with arthritis, and fibromyalgia, and most of the recipes will state you need x amount of bud, or x amount of trim.

What exactly is considered trim?

Does this include stems? Fan leaves? I'm only growing 3 small autos, so I'm not going to have a lot available for some of the larger recipes, and I'd like to use as much of the plant as possible that will be beneficial for the patient.

Thank you in advance!

:Namaste:

EDIT: Also another question: Does using a plant for salve change the harvest time?

EDIT again: Would the patient benefit more from a salve that was not decarboxylated? Would they benefit more from a salve that was decarboxylated? Or would they benefit more from a 50/50 mix of hald decarb'ed, and half not decarb'ed?

Sorry for all the questions, I just really want to make sure I can help them as much as possible.
