Using dimmer

I've got a 260W quantum board. Until now I've only used it in flower and kept it at 100%, raising and lowering when needed.
This time around I want to use the same light from seed to harvest.
As of now it's at about 30% and 24" away. I've got 1 week old seedlings under it that seem to be alright. Stretching a bit maybe.
The plan is to crank it up to 50% in a week or 2, to 70% beginning flower and 100% in late flower. Keeping it around 24" away the whole time.
Does this sound like it'll work?

Yes, sounds good to me
You can always dim down if you see signs of wilt/burn

Interesting. So can I run my old mars led fixtures on a dimmer that I add myself ? Simple dimmer from a hardware store? My thought is to use that instead of raising and lowering in some cases but also to induce stretch in auto's.
