American that retired overseas. With the recent loosening of some of the harshest marijuana penalties on the planet (up to 5 years for possession, and 15 years for possession over 10kg, and death penalty for trafficking) and government proposals to allow people to grow their own cannabis, it feels like the right time to dive into learning about cultivation.

Used to live in CA and NV when I was back in the US and had the opportunity to experience the medical and recreational booms that happened. Looking forward to seeing how things develop here in Thailand.

Unfortunately, no. At the moment, everything is pretty much limited to government produced CBD oils that you have to get from a doctor that has been specifically authorized to prescribe medical marijuana by the Ministry of Public Health. No doctors writing scripts like they were giving out candy here.

And anything with more than 0.3% THC is still considered a Class 5 narcotic (same category as heroin) and that equals serious jail time. :-(

In the more rural parts of the country, farmers often grow small batches but after having medical-grade weed in the US it's like going back to the 1970's or 1980's. LOL.

That said, the Minister of Public Health (an appointed cabinet level position) is the leader of a pro-marijuana political party and he seems to be fast tracking things, hopefully, with the eventual goal of recreational marijuana in the next few years.

They're working on a law right now that would allow any Thai citizen to grow up to six plants. I'm not Thai but the wife is so . . . fingers crossed. haha
