Drying harvest

Hi guys and thanks 420 for this amazing website. Ok so this is my second grow I'm growing in a 4x4x7foot tent and a 600hps. Everything goes well until I start drying my flower. I cant get rid of the hay smell . This is how I dry . Flushed for 2 weeks 1 heavy flush with 3 times the water and then regular watering with unph water close to 7 3 more times then following 48-72 hours of darkness soil is a little damp when I chop plants. Then I break into branches cut fan leaves only and hang in tent . Now for my tent i have a portable ac outside the tent that I have connected a duct and goes to the tent blowing with around 250cfm maybe a bit lower and kicks on whenever it needs to like every 20 -30 min for 5-10 min to drop temps down to 65-69F also I have a 30pint dehumidifier (cfm around 180) in grow tent to control rh and a small issolating fan always on to circulate air from dehumidifier and humidifier and to circulate air underneath buds when ac is of . No extracting fan(outtake fan) only a 6" whole that air goes out when ac goes on as to i dont have issues about smell so no carbon filter needed. All smells good until day 3-4 and after that hay smell kicks in and I can't get rid of it. I usually dry for 7-10 days then dry trim then into jars and burb as needed. Drying temperature 65-69f and rh 55-65. What am I doing wrong ?? To much air going in tent?? Drying to soon? . Keep in mind that everything that blows air(ac dehumidifier and isolating fan are not pointed on buds and buds are hung almost 2 feet above ) .Any help would be awesome and thanks again .

I think Its because the plant has been freshly cut and has a lot of chlorophyll and water in it still, kinda like when you threw fresh grass clippings in a compost soon as temps raise and it gets humid in there the hay smell starts,... Your in the right range for temps and humidity for drying and curing. Maybe try lowering the humidity a lil and not the temp and see if that helps, The cooler humidity may help preserve the terpene flavor scents better for you . :)

I have hay smell first two times I grew. First in a tent and didn't get to finish due to having to move so chopped early and had hay smell. Second time was outdoor same thing didn't have enough warm weather and had to chop. My last grow indoor was on point. Finished the plants to maturity. Dried, trimmed and cured the same way all three times and the buds from my last grow smelt amazing. Not sure there is any science behind it but that's my experience.

Thanks guys for the quick response . I will try to lower humidity between 45-55 rh still a little moist so I will aik for a 10-12 day dry. I eill.post with results

Im right there with you bro hanging 6 whole plant same temps and rh. On day 7 today. You have to let it go dude go for that 4 more days if u can keep temps right. If we cut down sooner the buds rh in jars gonna goto 70+++ . Just let it go bro few more days. I know im like this is time sensitive but damn dont they smell good. Some say that smell will come back later in the jar but. If it goes in wet ull most likely lose the smell. My ak47 wont lose the smell either way but my blue cookies is denser smelly too but the ak47 is big but not as dense hard so ot drys quicker. I think itd be better to let it go 4 more days till you know for olmost certain the middles of those bigger buds and decent buds are 90% dry. If its a good bud ud think itd still leech that moisture and wick it back in. I seen weed just turn sticky when its dried for a bit longer and you get the good taste. Stay away from the jar or what not for 4 more days..!! Lol..

If you can get the rh just right around 65 u can throw a boveda pack in to stabilize the rh at whichever boveda pack u choose. But if you throw it in to wet its gonna have a harder time regulating. Id get some bovedas if u can. I use the 62s but im olmost certain id be better off with the 58 s cause of the wet bud issue i had last time with my blue cookies. Ill prolly trim that 1 last this time on day 14+. Gl man .

This ak47 looks ready im sure its dry enuff but ima give it at least 1 more day. This is the best ive done so far with this strain and im all outta weed so cheers.

I dont understand why people are against flushing i swear this weed is litterally 4 or 5 x way better then the last grow. Gonna put a bud of each away hehe. But yea man these r the 6 that been drying for 7 days at 65-70 temp and 50 rh to start and 65 rh the rest of the time.

This the blue cookies. Last harvest i so screwed this 1 up on the dry. This smells so damn delicious and i turned it into hay.. this bud smells so good now after 7 8 days drying crystally sticky. These r by no means big huge buds but there nice buds and sticky sweet and nice tasting strains. But i bet if we keep drying em let em go for that 14 days. We will not get hay!!

Fk man those look great. I run a dehumidi constant to keep my rh where i want it . Im sucking air from the same room for intake into both my gardens so i also keep a window ac handy if temps go above 70. Dude those are gonna taste so good bro. Ya man go the distance dude on those beautys lol . But keep getting information i dont think your gonna get hay smell from those. Make sure there not wet though. Been kinda warm last 3 days here and wet the week b4 that. I plan on ttimming the ak 47 tomorrow i snapped a good bud in half pretty sucessfully and its ready. Ill do the 9 pound the following day and the blue cookies last. 9 pounds 1 day out i think so ill give it that 2nd day. Think there all pretty much far from any hay smell especially if i gove the blue cookoes 2 or 3 more days.. dude those look juicy lol

Thanks man that's why I'm so worried about drying and curing I have grown those buds like my babies lol. By the way this is my second grow just started my 3. I bought a portable ac that I connected to a duct that runs in the tent and I control my temps all the time just worried that ac blowing through the 6" inch duct is to much air for drying but it only kicks on when temperature goes above desired temperature usually runs 5-10 min on and 20 30 min of depending how hot it gets and have ac fan on low setting . Btw the ac isn hat i use for my intake fan through out the summer for flower veg and drying and then in winter I throw on my 6 inch temp controlled duct fan .

Ya it is i have a room i just hang the trees in its in the back yard so i just dark it out and dry em. Ya dude if ur drying in a tent def dont blow on em thatll dry em out. My dry rooms my intake air area for both my other rooms so i use that passive air blowing in 2 different directions in a 120 sf room if in a tent iunno bro damn those buds look good . Ull figure it out. Most importantly thoigh id say never jar em even the least bit wet make sure their good bro those buds look hella good. Sample it i did and it told me exactly where there at my ak can be trimmed tomorrow and still be good the other 2 are 1day apart i beleieve. I might even let the other 2 go few more days after cause their denser bud structure . I liked how that ak bud just snapped though just from hang drying. Usually its spongy this stuffs all dense heh.

Some /most of that smell will go away with curing if it was dried properly. You dry it too fast and it’s over. You can rehydrate and slowly dry/cure it a little too. All is not lost

I put like a box in front of where the ac blows to cut the air pressure when coming In the tent a little so it's not blowing that h as re. Also no don't think I'm drying that fast its day 7 today still a little moist just starting to dry a little on the outside . The thing I'm worried is the hay smell . If this will go away after the drying indontnmind. Again I'm aiming for a 10-12 day dry

Yes it will. It’s a balance ...not too slow not too fast. You were advised to drop rh in earlier post . That was correct. I am just trying to quell your worry of the hay smell. It can be dealt with during drying and curing so I think your good. Good luck

Thanks everybody for the help. Dropped rh and temps to 60-65F and 45-55 rh and hope everything goes well the next couple of days and then trimming it is . I will keep.you guys posted
