Technically no living thing should grow without darkness...a large debate goes on about 24 non stop lights as opposed to 18/6 and 20/4....but the truth is Biology 101 states plants grow in the dark when no longer actively in the process of photosynthesis using up the stored energy it created.... Darkness is when your plant will plump and bust out also if you are flowering...so it seems to have some truth in real experience......longer dark periods are preferable to longer light periods when shocking a plant...a plant can more easily consider the dark period a overcast day as opposed to the sun stayed out super long one day....
