Hydro vs. Organic

I have to respectfully disagree that hydroponics will yield higher than organics. There is a difference between growth rate and the yield. Because something grows faster does not mean it yields more in the same space. If you factor in time for veg growth, hydroponics will have the edge in yield. If you have a separate veg area, that timing issue is irrelevant.

Having greater aromatics is a matter of opinion and relative to growing skill and methods. When done correctly, organics (organic nutrients, soilless mixes) produce buds that smell just as strong as those grown hydroponically. I will concede that hydro-grown plants do have a slightly faster growth rate, but to solidly state that they yield more overall, I believe is misleading.

The reason that I switched to organics was because I didn't see enough difference in either growth or anything else to warrant the need for so much monitoring and expensive meters and nutrients. I think that the only provable plus to hydroponics is growth rate.Whereas the cons are chemical aftertaste in the flavour of buds, extreme susceptibility to over/under fertilization, very high initial investment, many things to break and clog, etc.

If grown in a nice airy organic soil mix and watered with good organic amendments, growth enhancers and beneficial fungi (mycorrhizae), you will easily compete with that of a hydroponic system. Your end result will be full flavored, non-chemical tasting buds. They can be arguably, slightly more potent due to the fact that, as of now, science cannot compete with Mother Nature and naturally occurring elements.

Bottom line - unless you are obsessed with fittings, toys and technology (and many are) organics can grow nearly as fast, just as big (if not bigger), better tasting and IMHO more potent buds. And they do this with very little initial investment, and are very forgiving of newbie mistakes.

I must humbly disagree.
I have bought bag after bag of organic herb. Both high end herb and typical commercial grade. The bouquet, aroma and quality of Hydro based bud is and has always been far superior. There are other factors for organics you didn't factor in. Pests are nearly impossible to eliminate entirely, weather patterns and storms can effect your plants. I can grow and harvest in the dead of winter, whereas organic growers are bound by the seasons and nature. If you grow indoors, then you are not truely growing organically. Because no artificial light can produce the suns effects. Artificials just allow you to control when its on. If done correctly hydroponic buds are just as clean tasting, in that you are supposed to stop nutes two to three weeks before harvest and use only pure water, to filter the harsh tasting chemicals out. Take a look at the picures on this web site. The outdoor/organic gardens look small and stringy vs. the hydro gardens. Does that mean the quality is substantially lower? no. But it does mean the difference between having 2 - 3 Oz. of really good bud, vs. having a 1/2 lb of great bud. I will agree that organic gardens are easier and safer for nubes, and the initial investment is substantially lower. But if you pay attention to detail, and you are dilligent, a the pros vs. cons easily lean towards hydroponics. IMHO.

Dude I am a hydro guy(check my signature I use ebb systems) and I can tell ya that a outdoor grow will almost always have more yield. Can't have a ten foot plant with hydro. That info up there is not mine I just posted it for more info to the forums.

I haven't grown many outdoor plants, but in the few I have. I have never gotten more than 2-3 oz. out of a plant. Since venturing into hydroponics, my plant size and internode length (thats really what determines quantity) is signifigantly better, and bigger.

I didn't mean this as a challenge..more of a debate.

I guess you never seen a two story plant that measures 30 meters around.I have.
I have seen many outdoor grows blow away any other type of grow.

To me hydro is a way to control the plant better. When I do hydro I control the whole environment and because of the nutrient and water delivery I can finish my grow 1/4 to 1/5 faster than organics with soil. A lot depends on the grower but with a outdoor grow, you just can't beat mother nature.

I've never seen one personally, but I do have a bud, that got popped because he had a plant that cleared the roof of his house. For what its worth, he put no effort into the plant, it was from bag seed and he just let it go. He also said the bud wasn't very good, and was seedy as hell. I'm not comparing this to our discussion, only that he had a mammoth plant like you were saying.

I suppose given proper care and time,(lots of it.) plants can grow infinately. And without the bounds of being in a grow room. They can get that large. How do you keep random pollinization from happening outdoors. One male plant within 7 miles of your female can have you seeded up in no time. It would suck to spend good change on some high quality genetics, just to be cross pollinated by a common mexican variety.
It could also be said that bigger isn't always better, because in the time it would take to grow a plant to that size..I can grow and harvest 4 times.

agreed. Now all I need to do is build a mobile grow room and a road that follows the sun as it makes its path around the earth. :laughtwo:

That plant gave way to over ten kilos.
It was set up next to a generator that made extra CO2 for it. That is rare.
But I am getting off topic.I am not quite sure why we are debating about this cause I believe the pros outweigh the cons when it comes to hydro versus soil. But hydro has nothing to do when it comes to yeilds or potency.
Only growth rate and flexability.
