Kushwreck & Others - Soil - HPS - CFL - 2014 - First HPS Grow

Hows it going everybody, new here to the site (joined in 2012 and only used occasionally to look up info) and this will be my first journal, but I've done a handful of small grows before this.

What strain is it? 1 Kushwreck that's already popped, and a few random bagseeds.
Is it in Veg or Flower stage? VEG.
If in Veg... For how long? Few days old I plan to veg for about a month maybe 5 weeks.
Indoor or outdoor? Indoor, Some will be brought outdoor, Kushwreck will be flowered indoor.
Soil or Hydro? Soil, trying a few different types, each is a random mix.
If soil... What size pot? Either 1 or 2 gallon, haven't made a decision yet.
Size of light? 150w HPS and i plan on adding another 100-200w of CFl's also
Is it aircooled? Not at the moment, but i have a grinder and welder that will change that, along with a remote ballast. (possibly)
Temp of Room/cab? When i had 300w of CFL in it they hovered at 75, don't know about the new light yet.
RH of Room/cab? Around 25%
PH of media or res? Around 7
Any Pests ? Nope, and in 2 years I've only ever dealt with fungal gnats so I'm on a good streak haha.
How often are you watering? I water when the soil is dry about a half inch down, usually every 3-5 days.
Type and strength of ferts used? Was using Tiger Bloom but I've been powdered nutes for a while now ( Veg+Bloom dirty) and ( +life )

Small update, after running the HPS for a few hours the ballast got really hot, as expected. so I decided to do the remote ballast setup right off the bat. I also didn't like how small the light hood was, you can see compared to my old cfl hood its tiny, so I'm making m old one work. well see how this goes. I'm half way done and needed a smoke break so i figured id post some progress.

Success! I didn't get electrocuted and no fires were started! and it only took me 6 hours haha. The extra 160w of CFL make a huge difference with how bright it is so im pretty happy. I cleaned it with bathroom cleaner and then rubbing alcohol before setting it back up.

Here you can see the way the exhaust is vented, up and out through to the adjacent closet. As of now its not hooked up to the hood but depending on what the temps look like I might set it up. Its made up of 2 3" comp fans stacked together.

Planted a few more seeds that a friend gave me a while back. He told me that they're Purple Karma, but I've looked and found no such strain so we'll see how it turns out.

Looks like a decent setup man. Hey if you want to ditch all those dvd cases, check out my journal and u can see in one of my pics how i built a stand with chickenwire to let the runoff flow.

FUCK. first humid day of the year, and after only 2 hours of the lights being on were up to 88 degrees ( F ). granted, room temp outside the closet was at 78 and its usually never that hot. Had all the windows closed all day while I was out.

I dont know if it would be practical for you but would u be able to run some ductwork from your room ac vent to your box? Keep some cool air flowing in. I had to do this because pulling hot air out wasnt enough.

ive tried, but it didnt work all that well, id have to tape off all the vents on the A/C so the air only went into the vent, which would then make the room unbearably hot in the summer. i hooked the venting to my hood and got it down a bit

so i hooked this up

got it down to this, itll go down more too as the overall temperature of the room lowers. probably 3-4 more degress so ill be happy with that.

This is how i got my little window ac hooked up to it. I got most of it going to my box but some can still cool the room so im not dying of heat. Im guessing you have a regular ac system built into the home?

no i have one built in the wall like that, but it has a skinny horizontal vent and the was i set it up last time didnt work very well. but next time i get a chance im gunna go pick up more exhaust tubing like that and rig it up in a better manor

Ya try it out, i have exellent results. Usually mid day my box will be around 76 and my room 77. And then at night it will be close to 67 and my room about 75. I pretty much have the ac set at 65 unless it gets too cold which doesnt happen where i live.

Okay so heres a small update, woke up this morning and afer it cooling down a bit from having the windows open, temps dropped back down to 77-78. So I think once I start running the A/C it should keep the ambient air outside the grow at a low enough temp to effectively cool down the the closet. I really just dont want to have to make more changes, i like how it is now haha. Oh and i forgot, i also put 2 more small comp fans in there for air flow. but i forgot to take pictures of that so looks like ill be back here shortly

new baby, i dont know what the hell is going on with that other one, either the soil sucks, or i shocked the shit out of it by switching to HPS.

Oh and i never really showed how my ballast is set up now, so heres that in case anyone was curious.

Hey quick question. Are the new fans pulling air in/out of the box or are they just on the inside for air flow. Is your second little girl yellow?

Hey quick question. Are the new fans pulling air in/out of the box or are they just on the inside for air flow. Is your second little girl yellow?

They are both just on the inside for extra airflow, one directed at the plants, and one on the light hood blowing towards where the exhaust is vented through the hood.

Oh and the second one that popped up is a nice heavy green, the first one is a much lighter green, doesnt look all that good at the moment

Okay so I wanted to share with everyone what i have for nutrients, and ask a few questions about them also.

Anyone else ever use, or ever hear of this stuff?

This I got for free when I got the stuff above.

I know i see alot of people talking about how microbes are really important but i havnt read into all that much, this seems to have some microbial stuff in it, what do you guys think about this stuff good or bad?

And of course i have this too, but I didnt use it last run, wanted to try out the about products. but this seems to have more organic ingredients in it so I dont know what i want to do.

Gimme some feed back one what you guys think, im gunna go read up a little on microbes.
