Leaf Cuttings do they honestly work?

Know a friend swears blind that you can take a leaf cuttings & grow a full matured MJ plant from it...

Wow i thought, so he suggest lets prune my plants :cheer:

I said NO, not gonna do it tonight due to being medicated... like accidents can happen, after all i was not convinced as i've had no first hand experience/witnessed a succesful leaf cutting & was not prepared to slice 'n' dice my precious :peace:

So i done some research.

1. A majority of people said NO its not going to happen with a leaf cutting.

2. Some said YES depending on strain of plant or whether it was sativa or indica, no one gave any clear answer... bit of golden goose egg chase i thought.

3. A minority said YES leafs can sprout roots, with others suggesting that they failed to grow to mature plants.

4. Some random comment on putting nick/slice in vane on leaf/stem to promote branch formation, never heard any thing like that before ?

As far as i'm concerned its about stem cuttings from a branch, but just in case any of the above results prove truthly, ideally with some form of evidence...

I would love to here your view of leaf cuttings :thanks:

Re: Leaf Cuttings do they honestly work ?

If anybody does have success with leaf cuttings please add details :thanks:

What strain is it & seed company ?

Is it Indica, Sativa or Hybrid? What percentages % ?

Any genetic details which you know off ?

Re: Leaf Cuttings do they honestly work ?

IMO as iv never tried it you can succesfully clone and root a leaf BUT thats all it will ever be a leaf. This will grow and you will get a massive leaf but it wont grow into a plant that would be impossible, if this was the case you wouldnt need a large mother producing endless amounts of nodes to feed a commercial scale grow you could just take the leaves of a semi mature mother.

Leaf/part cuttings are normally taken from Succulent type of plants e.g fleshy leafs as well some herbaceous species.

I think this is abit beyond the average MMJ grower & even under laboratory conditions appear tricky & require specialist skills.

This might work tho...

Layering is form of taking cuttings which may work with MJ by bending branchs to the ground for it to take root.

Air layering is another option if branchs can not be bent, this is forming roots on branchs of mother plant.

I remember this old post almost one year & two days ago

MJ is really the wrong type of plant for leaf cuttings to be successful i'm afraid thats why their is so little information regarding the techinque being used with MJ as it does not work !

Its all about stem cuttings, layering works also... not tryed air layering yet but pretty sure that would work also :thumb:

i will put one in and try it but doubt it will work, i have a very large area for cuttings and it wouldnt cause any issues to put a few in. But i dont believe it will work at all. There are no nodes for hormone distribution, i think u would just end up with a vey big leaf! haha but for sake of science i will do it and post pics.

Layering definately works, its just like taking a cutting without actually taking cutting lol. Not very practical though unless u are planning on goung horizontal, might be an idea to try in large grow bags?
