I'm surprised you haven't heard of dusting leaves with it. That's one of the first things they list when you do a Google search. I'm not sure on the hydro side but I know silica strengthens cell walls as well.

From just a quick read silica's not good for hydroponic systems it can cause a nutrient deficiency

Glad I didn't tell you to go for it lol. Just use the neem and some soap and make sure you reapply weekly until no more signs of pest or until flowering.
