RolliinStoned's Perpetual 600W Multi-Strain Soil & Hydro Adventure

Hello everyone, I am a medical patient looking to grow for personal use. I've recently taken an old 6'x8' shed and built it into my new perpetual indoor grow room. It has about 4'x6' of flowering space, and I also have a 2'x4' tent for Vegging as well. I've completed two outdoor grows and have been lurking this great forum for months, I finally feel like I'm ready to give indoor a try :cheesygrinsmiley:

All 8 of my plants were given from a friend so I only know the strains, not when they were started. On my next update I will bring everyone up to date along w/photos, for now here are the basics

Bucket Size: (2) 5 Gallon Fabric Pots, (2) 5 Gallon HD Buckets, (2) 7 Gallon Fabric Pots, (1) 5 Gallon DWC, (1) 4" Square Pot

Medium: Promix HP slightly amended w/ Worm Castings, Azomite, Myco's, Perlite

Lights: Vegging: 228w (150w hps + 78w flouros) - Flowering: 600w Dimmable

Nutrients: Dyna-Gro Grow (7-9-5) & Bloom (3-12-6), FloraKleen, & Azatrol for pests

# of Plants: 8

Strains: DNA Genetics OG #18 Fem from seed, G13 Pineapple Express clone, TGA Vortex from seed, Ocean Grown Genetics Alien Abduction #20 clone, (4) Ocean Grown Genetics Wizard Potions from seed

Yield: 16-22 Oz's ? About 22 Oz's would put me at 1GPW so I'm going to aim for that !

Pictures will be posted asap ! :peace:

Okay so here we go, I'm gonna post pics and say a little about each one until we catch up to current date !

This is my 6'x8' shed, it previously had half greenhouse film, half shade cloth on the top from my last two outdoor grows

Here is a quick pic of my 2'x4' Veg tent 228w (currently not in use until next batch of clones are rooted)

This is my Ocean Grown Genetics Alien Abduction #20 (Alien OG x Alien Dawg) in 5 Gallon DWC. First try at hydro, only have grown one hydro plant and it was a tomato last season, worked great though! Ocean Grown Genetics is a line of genetics my local dispensary owns, he is good friends with Swerve from Cali Connection and most of his strains are crosses of swerves I believe, regardless it shall be interesting to see how the Alien Abduction & Wizard Potions (G13 Widow x SFV OG) turn out! Here is the Alien when it was first put into the DWC

I only have my MH at 450w (75%) for the time being, I'm working on finishing the power line I have run to the shed from the breaker, once that is complete I will bump the light to 600w! That's it for now, any comments, questions, or advice is greatly appreciated :peace:

Good luck with your grow. ;)

:rollit:

Thanks SG, hope you stick around !

subscribed. what brand of nutrients are you running? how are your temperatures in your grow areas?

Welcome KJC, I am using Dyna-Gro, it's a commercial nutrient available in sizes from 8oz to 55 Gallons. I buy it by the quart for about $15, I gave it a try because a very knowledgeable grower on another forum did many tests with it and other popular top nutrient brands and it had great results! His tests showed that it was more concentrated and more ph stable then other more expensive brands. I've been impressed so far, and I like that Dyna-Gro is more of a complete nutrient and doesn't use a bunch of marketing and hype to sell a million different supplements with catchy names. If you check out their website they have very detailed product analysis's. I previously used ---'s Farmer Pride Organic line on my last two outdoor crops and they turned out pretty good, I'd just like to try something a little simpler and less smelly for my new indoor setup, so far Dyna-Gro seems to work well !

Thanks my friend! Figured with all the money & time spent in properly setting up the electrical, it would be wise to put in an auto extinguisher for extra peace of mind while I'm away. It was only $65 shipped off Amazon and covers a 7.7' diameter which is perfect for me,a little difficult to mount though since it weighs 26 pounds :thedoubletake: but they have smaller ones as well!

Oh and KJC my temps are dependent on the weather outside since I'm relying on just an intake and exhaust fan, I may get an A/C in the future but right now I'm low on funds. It's been getting a little hotter then I would like lately (75-90 Daytime/ 60-70 Nighttime) However I'm going to switch my light cycle to lights on at night & off during the day, this should decrease daytime temps and increase nighttime temps :peace:

re: RolliinStoned's Perpetual 600W Multi-Strain Soil & Hydro Adventure

Lets see if this helps temps, changed my timer to the following:

On: 10PM-10AM (12hrs)
Off: 10AM-3:00PM (5hrs)
On: 3:00PM-5:00PM (2hrs)
Off: 5:00PM-10PM (5hrs)

re: RolliinStoned's Perpetual 600W Multi-Strain Soil & Hydro Adventure

Seems to of helped a bit, Temps are now at around 70 Nighttime/70-78 Daytime

Still a bit of minor leaf twisting at the tips which I think is due to heat stress, will have to see if they improve with the cooler temps. I'll post some pics for some other opinions.

Light is on 450w still and is around 18-20" from top of canopy, how does that sound ? I'm new to indoor growing with HID's so it's going to take a while before I find the perfect height for my light, I'm looking for a happy medium of light intensity but am also trying to cover a 4'x4' footprint. I've heard between 12"-18" is optimal for 600w

re: RolliinStoned's Perpetual 600W Multi-Strain Soil & Hydro Adventure

place your hand underneath the light bulb and move your hand to the point you can not feel any heat and adjust the light above your canopy to that level, raise the light as your plants grow.

re: RolliinStoned's Perpetual 600W Multi-Strain Soil & Hydro Adventure

Alright here are some pics of the damage, let me know your thoughts

This first pic is of my Pineapple express, it is the only plant exhibiting these symptoms, the leaves seem to be drooping & clawing with slight brown tips, but only towards the bottom and middle of plant which makes me think it is NOT a heat related issue. Issue seems to be improving since transplant but I'd still like to know the cause!

Next are my Wizard Potions, the newest growth seems to canoe and the tips are slightly twisted, looks like heat stress to me but I'm not 100%, any opinions ?

re: RolliinStoned's Perpetual 600W Multi-Strain Soil & Hydro Adventure

Thanks KJC that is very helpful ! I may try to lower my lights a bit and see how the plants respond, or I may just wait until I put in the 600w hps before I fiddle with the height. The MH seems to run quite a bit hotter then the HPS, the MH on 450w is like the HPS on 600w !

re: RolliinStoned's Perpetual 600W Multi-Strain Soil & Hydro Adventure

the first plant maybe over watering or nutrient burn. the second plant appears like heat stress damage.

I agree, I'll let it dry out a little more between waterings and dial the nutes back and see what happens.

re: RolliinStoned's Perpetual 600W Multi-Strain Soil & Hydro Adventure

Update: 8/26

Things have been truckin along nicely! Been pretty busy lately though so I haven't got around to finishing my wiring or DIY light controller, I should have it done within a week or so and then I can bump it up to 600w!

I'm germinating a Dinafem Blue Cheese Auto that I got as a freebie just for fun, hopefully it will sprout since i've never grown an auto before.

On to the pics !
