ViparSpectra XS1500 Review

The ViparSpectra XS1500 is an excellent 2'x2' grow light. It is well-built, easy to use, generates an excellent distribution of light, and has elite efficiency. The XS series feature Samsung LM301b diodes and a Mean Well driver with an almost unbelievable price. It is a great choice for 2'x2' grow spaces.

The ViparSpectra XS series is an upgrade to the popular P-Series fixtures. Both model lines are quantum board-style fixtures with ribbed aluminum heat sinks. They both feature a convenient dimmer on the side of the fixture.

Both the XS series and the P series are full spectrum LEDs with supplemental 660nm Red. However, the XS-series features upgraded chips and a driver. The Samsung LM301b diodes and the Mean Well driver allow the XS1500 to realize better efficiency and produce a superior PAR map to the P-1500. In addition, the XS series features a silver finish, which looks much better than the green on the P-series. The XS1500 looks, feels, and performs like a professional light.

In the 2'x2' PAR test, the ViparSpectra XS1500 produced an average PPFD of 776.9 µmol/m2, which is excellent. The distribution of density is also great. As you can see in the PAR map, the lowest PPFD value was 630 µmol/m2. The XS1500 covers four square feet easily, with an even distribution of high-density light.

The ViparSpectra XS1500 produced a Usable PPF of 279.7 µmol. This is higher than the target Usable PPF for four square feet, which means you will fully light a 2'x2' space with one XS1500. During the test, a power draw of 153 watts (at 120v) was measured. This gives the XS1500 an elite Usable Photon Efficiency of 1.83 µmol/w.

There are many things to like about the XS series and the XS1500, such as the dimmer. It tested very accurately and is really convenient for starting seedlings. It is a sleek little fixture that is easy to plug and play. The heat sink works effectively, and heat won't be a big concern. The recorded hottest temperature was on the heat sink at 59.2 c (138.6 f).

If you are looking for a small fixture – either for a small space or for raising your seedlings – the ViparSpectra XS1500 is an almost unbeatable deal. If you are trying to start small on a budget, getting one of these lights is a great plan. You can add additional units as your budget permits and end up with a high-efficiency array. The Viparspectra XS1500 can be among our top picks for a 2'x2' grow space.

Your par maps and price sold me. I ordered a new XS1500 for my 2x2 tent last night. Those numbers and specs are impressive….almost as impressive as the price after using the Amazon coupon.
Thank you for choosing VIPARSPECTRA! Hope you enjoy our new XS1500!! Looking forward to your sharing!
