How I was raised

This is for the coolest parents a guy could ever hope for;

My mom told me once, that when I was conceived, They were at a hippie commune somewhere in Georgia
My best memories of my mom when I was a little boy were, her, with the longest, straightest black hair you can imagine, I mean all the way down almost to the back of her knees. I remember hiding under it from my sister..lol
I remember her sitting around with her friends, in the middle of the day smoking one cig after the other and making and drinking one pot of coffee after the other...I mean all day long!
You see, she was a stay at home mom, like most were in those days.
So she was the one who ran the show...cooked cleaned, took care of us...etc...etc.
Because of the fact that she loved the magic herb, she was like a magnet for all of the younger girls in the neighborhood.
She was and still is one of the smartest people you would ever meet in your life, so she was like a matriarch to these girls to confide in when things were going bad in there lives, almost like a counselor if you will.
We all have grown up and she is now in her early 60's, So she has quit all those bad habits and is now almost retired.

I also remember my dad at my age now as well.
Picture a 6'3" tall, skinny, long haired hippie wearing a cowboy hat, a Jim Morrison style shirt, Boots and a 44 magnum strapped to his hip, driving around in a WWII vintage army Jeep smoking a doob while listening to the Eagles on 8 track! I mean a real deal hippie!
Needless to say, this was and still is my idol.
He was always on the road working for the phone company for most of my growing up, although he was at home most weekends.

A couple of my fondest memories as a kid from the southeast, were the two different summers we got to spend in Northern California, because my dad volunteered to work out there.
I remember how much bigger than life it was, we would take day trips to Yosemite, Taho, the redwood forest, the Napa Vally...I remember going in all the wineries, the ponderosa ranch, San Fransisco, pier 39 ...just everything my folks could think of...man were those great times!

By the time I was old enough to start getting into trouble, my dad was really hard on me to straighten up and fly right.
One day, when I was around..well, not of age, he noticed that his stash started coming up light.
Of coarse he knew it was me, because my sister was like this cheer leader type that never did anything wrong...I love her, but I'm not her cup of tea, if you know what I mean.
Anyway, my dad finally confronted me one day after one of his sacks came up light and of coarse he got it out of me that "yes" I was smoking his weed and that I had been smoking cigs as well.
I cant lie, he was a little disappointed for a while, but after he had a little time to think about it, he was actually really cool about it and told me "son, I know you are going to do it no matter what I say, so you might as well do it with me so I can keep an eye on you".
Dude! I was shocked! I couldn't believe how instantly cool my dad had become!
He started taking me around to meet and smoke with all of his older friends in all these small towns he had worked in, which now that I'm older, I still go with him and see...it's so great to hang with an older crowd like that...as a young lad, it's amazing how much shit you think you know, but don't know jack shit!
So here I am, 38 years old now, got my own wife and son to worry about, my dad is in his mid 60's and retired now.
He still smokes weed sometimes and drinks his B*er and Ge*rge Di*kle, and putters around the pool that is surrounded by a freakin huge 3 tier deck, with a huge hot tub on the 2nd tier and a nice pool house built on to the end of the 3rd deck...were talking resort here! totally cool.
Wet bar, complete with a Bunn 2 hopper slushy machine for making your favorite concoctions...I mean the works!

I am so proud of how well my folks wound up, from stoner hippies, to The coolest couple of retirees you ever saw in your life...Needless to say, my best friends have always just love my folks, and still do to this very day.

God has truly blessed me with more than any kid could ever hope for!
