British Columbia - That sweet smell in the air during next month's Olympic Games might be the smell of success.

Then again, it could just be the pot.

Both police and marijuana advocates say Vancouver's relaxed attitude towards the drug won't change during the 2010 Games.

It's not unusual to catch a whiff of weed on the streets of Vancouver, where police have for some time turned a blind eye to aficionados of B.C. bud and focused drug enforcement efforts on dealers instead.

While there's no specific strain of Olympic marijuana, there are a line of T-shirts featuring a man running with a lit spliff, a nod to jokes that the 2010 Olympic torch actually looks like a giant joint.

Longtime pot activist Marc Emery says he hopes tourists coming to the Games get an opportunity to sample some of B.C.'s best-known export, but Rebecca Ambrose of the Vancouver seed bank says she's worried over zealous visitors could lead to a police crackdown.

Vancouver police say while they plan to use the same discretion when it comes to marijuana consumption, they'll also make sure people realize that it does remain against the law.
