A 41-year-old Raymond man is in jail after police allegedly found more than 500 marijuana plants growing in his basement.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Department says a deputy went to the home of Carl Packard Friday afternoon in an attempt to arrest a woman on an outstanding warrant.

But when the deputy approached the house, he smelled the odor of marijuana plants and called for a drug-detection dog.

When deputies searched the home, they found what they described as an elaborate marijuana-growing operation in the basement, with hundreds of pot plants ranging from one- to three-feet tall.

Packard is charged with cultivating marijuana. Bail was set at 20-thousand dollars.

It was later determined that the woman police were looking for had moved out of the house a few months ago.

I dont see anything wrong with this except that it sucks for that guy since the woman no longer lived there.
