8x4 grow tent.how many plants can I fit?

I have a 8 x 4 grow tent and am first deciding on either 2 600 watt lights or 3 4oo watt lights. The 400 because I figure I would not be losing any watts and I would be able to move them closer to the plants without harming them. Second question is how many plants should I be able to fit in there?

Either one would be efficent but 2 6oo's would give you more lumens and with your setup heat can be a big issue vented hoods are also great for tents happy growing

i got 20 plant in 4 inch pvc pipe set up in a 4x4 tent under a 1000w hps w cooling hood

I would go with 3 400w for the following reasons:
1-You don't say, but I am assuming this tent is for start to finish grow?
With 3 400w you may want to mix/match MH and HPS, depends on your own ideas.

2-You don't need all 1200w or even 600w for the whole grow. Start with 1 400w and increase as plants increase in size. Save on the electric bill where you can. Depending on reflector desighn, you may get more even spread also.

3-If you are in the middle of the grow and 1 light dies, you only loose 1/3 not 1/2 lighting.

4-Stagger start each light, 10 minutes apart on individual timers. This reduces electrical load spikes, reduces load on each timer and reduces light loss if 1 timer fails.

Yes, vent that tent and light, they do get hot!
