A Christina Lake man has been charged with feeding dangerous wildlife at an alleged marijuana grow-op where bears were fed dog food.

Allan Piche is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Grand Forks on December 14th.

A police investigation of the alleged grow-op in August uncovered that as many as 26 black bears at a rural property had become dependent on humans for food.

The Environment Ministry says the bears were retrained on a reduced feeding schedule so they could return to the wild and local residents could be protected.

Most of the bears are now hibernating.

Under the Wildlife Act, fines for feeding dangerous wildlife can be as high as $100,000 for a first offence, a jail term of up to a year, or both.
