Biochar thoughts on TLO soil use in pots

I'm not TLO but do use biochar in my organic mix.

I make my own by mixing equal parts of worm castings and char which has been screened down to a uniform size. I let that sit in a bucket for several weeks at least so the microbes can populate the holes in the char. The combination makes up 12.5% of my mix.

As Crimson says, if it is not pre-charged the carbon will act like a filter and suck in nutrients from your mix leaving you with deficiencies until it is full, then it acts like a hotel for microbes and nutrient battery releasing nutes gradually over time.

Check out Terra Preta, the black soil of the Amazon. Rain forests have notoriously bad soil for growing crops but huge populations required lots of food which was produced using char to massively improve the growing capacity of the soil
