Biochar

Has anyone used biochar as an amendment to their organic soil?

If so, what did you see as the pros and cons? If you were fortunate enough to grow to completion, what differences did you notice from your pre-biochar grows (of the same strain) in terms of quality, bounty, aroma?

I add it as a 'catch can' type of deal and have never done a side by side with it.

To try it for cheap, just snag a bag of *lump* or 'cowboy' charcoal and smush it up. NOT briquettes. It is just wood/limbs/chunks made into charcoal. I use it in my smoker and the 'shake' gets added to my mix.

Biochar has produced terrific yields for me at a 3-5% application rate (I only grow Organix, so I use Black Owl Biochar in my soil). There are more crystals, healthier and sturdier plants and the plant "tastes" sweeter. It also helps fight against mold. I really recommend it. I am also going to start using their powdered biochar in my irrigation and hydro system.

Hope this helps!

There's already a thread about biochar with more detailed info, just click back.
