Black spots

Black shiny spots on tops of fan leaves size of pin head. Light brown spots on lower leaves of plant. Looks like dust or dirt on the leaves but I can't tell if they move under my magnifying glass.

hi nikkiannb,

welcome to 420! a 30/60 X jewelers loupe about $12 bucks or 1000X wifi mini microscope $35ish is what most here use for scoping. it helps to figure out which pests you are fighting and also viewing trichs for ripeness at harvest time. Based on that leaf curl I would expect spider mites.

Spider mites typically hang out on leaf undersides and it’s where they attach their eggs. When spraying for pests be sure to spray up her skirt first to coat leaf undersides otherwise if you spray top down first then foliage will droop down preventing you from getting good coverage on leaf underside.

our sponsor SNS makes great integrated pest management products. Other options are Neem Oil, Safers Spap, Spinosad or micronized wettable sulfur.
