Vancouver — A new study says most Canadians are more concerned with how marijuana is regulated than if pot should be legal.

The Abacus data shows 35 per cent of people are firmly for legalizing pot, 24 per cent are against it, and the remaining 42 per cent in the middle.

"That's the critical group, those in the middle who don't really have clear views, they are more likely to believe that safety, education and training of those who are going to sell the products are crucial to the process of legalizing," says David Coletto with the pollster.

Coletto says the study found that most Canadians are more concerned with how it is regulated.

"There has to be some control over the substance that most Canadians don't necessarily see as an overly harmful product, but do recognize that it could have unintended consequences on broader society, on people's behaviour and their health."
