Charles Shaw reprises his M.A.P.S/Entheon Village DreamRise lecture series presentation from this year's Burning Man festival. Take the fascinating and utterly shocking trip through the secret history of American drug policy, where nothing is as it appears. Learn how the American government has created many of the drug problems it claims the War on Drugs is supposedly designed to address. Hear the true story of US involvement in the global drug trade and its integral role in the American economic and political systems. Discover the consequences of these policies, including the domestic prison crisis, the disenfranchisement of millions of Americans, and the rise of international "narco-terrorism."

Charles Shaw is a Chicago-based writer/activist and former Editor-in-Chief of the Conscious Choice publications whose work regularly appears in Alternet, The Huffington Post, Grist, and Reality Sandwich. He is a former official with the Green Party of the US who has worked for many years to raise awareness about the War on Drugs and to reform US drug policy, and is currently writing Exile Nation, a drug war memoir.

This lecture is presented in collaboration with Entheon Village (entheonvillage.com) and the Chicago Consciousness Cafe (consciousnesscafe.com)
