Cop Facing Drug Charge

A St. Thomas police officer faces charges under the Police Act for allegedly smoking pot.

Police Chief Bill Lynch said the officer, Const. Beverley Brennan, a seven-year veteran, is charged with two counts of discreditable conduct accused of using marijuana while off duty between March 2008 and March 2010.

Brennan is to make her first appearance before a Police Services Act Tribunal on June 18 at 10 a.m. in the city council chambers at 545 Talbot St. The tribunal is a public hearing.

Lynch said Peel Regional Police Superintendent Frank Roselli will chair the tribunal.

If found guilty, Brennan could face sanctions under the Police Act ranging from an unpaid suspension, temporary demotion, or firing.

Brennan is suspended with pay.

Chief Lynch declined further comment.
