Detroit drug raids have netted more than 1,100 pounds in confiscated marijuana -- with a potential street value of more than $5 million -- after two major seizures in the past week, Chief Warren Evans announced today.
Narcotics officers raided a home in the 22000 block of Tireman on Sunday, where they discovered 908 pounds of marijuana, much of it pressed into large bales and other quantities portioned out into smaller plastic bags -- apparently for distribution.
"The operator clearly is a major supplier in this area," Evans said in a news release today.
Investigators obtained arrests warrants for two suspects who were not at the house at the time of the raid. Those men are expected to be in custody soon, officials said.
The Sunday drug raid followed one earlier last week in which officers from a joint DPD-FBI drug conspiracy task force raided a home in the 4200 block or
Sturtevant on Wednesday. Investigators seized 220 pounds of marijuana and obtained a felony warrant for one suspect, who has been charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (more than 650 grams).
According to police, marijuana can net between $1,200 and $4,500 per pound, depending on how it's packaged and sold. Evans said the total potential street value of these two busts this month is about $5.1 million.

“Our new focus of going after mid level drug dealers as opposed to street corner dealers appears to be paying off,” Evans said. “If we pinch the suppliers, we also cut off business for a while at the
drug house down the street.”
