Medical marijuana users are putting the pressure on state lawmakers who are considering legislation that some fear will trample the rights of medicinal pot users. House Bill 2149, introduced by Rep. Eileen Cody, D-West Seattle, aims to clarify and integrate both medicinal and recreational marijuana markets. But, some say it goes too far by forcing patients to register on a state database, removes collective gardens, redefines "chronic pain" and reduces possession amounts from 24-ounces to 3-ounces.

"It would be great if they can preserve patient rights because they are the ones who ushered this whole thing in," said Jake Dimmock, co-owner of Northwest Patient Resource Center in Seattle. Co-owner John Davis drafted his own bill to try and protect patients while allowing the recreational market to unfold. Failure of the state to act ensures a U.S. Department of Justice crackdown on the dispensaries. Several activist groups, including the Cannabis Action Coalition, plan a rally in Olympia on Tuesday.
