Downtown Eastside Bus Service Back To Normal After 'Free Marc Emery' Protest

Buses in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside were rerouted for over an hour late Saturday afternoon due to a protest over the extradition of 'Prince of Pot,' Marc Emery.

The high-profile cannabis prohibition activist , 51, was extradited to Seattle, Wash. on Thursday morning for allegedly selling marijuana seeds through the mail to U.S. customers.

"No buses are going along Hastings between Gore and Homer, some are using Pender both ways, others are using Cordova going out and Powell coming in," TransLink spokesman Drew Snider said in an email.

Bus routes were back on schedule by 6:30 p.m., said Snider.

The protest is the third in as many days in Vancouver.

On Friday, six protesters were arrested after trying to block a bus of G8 delegates from leaving the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel.

The three men and three women were in a group of "about 80," the Vancouver Police reported, who had begun a peaceful demonstration earlier Friday outside the Vancouver Art Gallery.

A protest was also organized Thursday by the B.C. Marijuana Party and Cannabis Culture, the self-described "Marijuana Magazine," that was founded by Emery in 1994.
