Elderly Woman Receives Surprise Package In The Mail, $2,400 Worth Of Marijuana

Last week, an elderly woman in Blackman Township received a surprise package in the mail – about 2 pounds of marijuana.

Township public safety detectives, however, could not determine the origin of the drugs, Deputy Director Jon Johnston said Tuesday.

The woman called the public safety department around 4:20 p.m. Thursday to notify officers about the package, which contained about $2,400 worth of marijuana, Johnston said. The drugs were sent to the woman's house in the 500 block of Longfellow Avenue from an address in Arizona.

Detectives determined the address in Arizona is false and do not know who sent the marijuana, Johnston said. The department took possession of the drugs and intends to destroy it.

The elderly woman, detectives believe, was not the intended recipient.

Johnston said either the marijuana was mistakenly sent to the wrong address or someone had the drugs delivered to the woman's house and planned to steal it from her mailbox before she checked.
