WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. A group of former law enforcement officials is endorsing a November ballot measure that would legalize marijuana in California.

The group, which includes former or retired police officers, judges and prosecutors, announced Monday in West Hollywood that it supports Proposition 19 because keeping marijuana illegal props up drug cartels and diverts law enforcement from more serious crime.

If approved by voters, the proposition would allow adults to possess up to one ounce of marijuana. Local governments would be allowed to tax its sales.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca recently said he would lead efforts against Proposition 19. His counterpart, Los Angeles police Chief Charlie Beck, said he's personally against the ballot measure, but his department has not taken a position.

It only makes sense that some individuals joined these fields with the hope that they could help make the world a better place. These people are brave and my hats off to them.:bravo:

We are getting there! Seems like more slowly than surely, but hey, small increments of progress have gotten us further ahead than we were 15 years ago. When you are up against as much big $ as the RE-legalize movement is, we are fortunate to be where we are.

Some of what we are up against includes big coal tar synthetic Rx pharma who are pushers of the deadliest drugs, the alcohol industry, synthetic fabric industries, the forest industry...worst of all are the disingenuous LEOs who are looking for more & more budget money, easy busts to crow about & in far to many cases PAY OFFS!! As in bribes.

The only way to make a big dent in the 'drug war' is legalize them all. Then run them through state run dispensaries so quality can be controlled to cut OD deaths. We must take the big $ away form the cartels, mafia & gangs. I would STRONGLY advocate Consequences Of Use Education programs as well. Some of the substances they try to associate MJ with ARE deadly & dangerous.

If you don't know about Law Enforcement Against Prohibition check them out!

Also look up Sheriff Mack. He's an end the drug war advocate.
