Being a user with a relatively slow connection, this site takes a while to load, especially in picture threads. While those with high speed DSL connections would only wait a second to load the front page, it takes me a much longer time. I don't know too much about computer programming, but another forum that I peruse has had speed problems in the past, and they easily quartered their average loading speed and bandwidth usage by using server side data compression.
Checking the main forum page, we could easily cut loading speeds to a sixth of what they are according to this thing: Compression Check :: Port80 Software Then again, this is coming from a company that sells server compression software.
I believe that we could attract and keep more members with slower connections if some compression was utilized.
