Freidog's Multi Strains In Coco 20/21

Day 41 - Coming along nicely (12 Dec 2020)

All three are growing nicely and RC and SA have adjusted to the growth pattern after mainlining. I think the pics speak for themselves:

Day 48 - NL5 x Haze Repotting (19 Dec 2020)

The NL5 is recovering well and it's also now time for her to have a new pot.

At this time, the feeding schedule for all three (growing in coco) was being done according to the recommendations from Canna on the nutrients and concentrations. I use the following Canna products (and no, I don't have any affiliation with Canna):
  • Coco A
  • Coco B
  • Rhizotonic
  • Cannazym
  • Cannaboost (when flowering)
pHing the feeding to between 5.5 and 6.0 using Advanced Hydroponics pH Down. Consistently measuring the EC to make sure I'm not getting the coco too hot.

Here are a few pics of the NL5 from re-potting. You can still see some of the deformed growth from her time sickened, and you can see that she essentially "topped" herself and split the main shoot into two branches:

Day 52 - Hot Coco and Continue Mainlining (23 Dec 2020)

So, in the days since the last pics I managed to slightly burn the ladies with the feedings I was giving them. The NL5 was hit the hardest, although none of them were affected catastrophically. I think the problem was that I was feeding all three according to schedule (actually I was only using 80% recommended strength at that stage), but I wasn't feeding them enough to produce any significant run-off. I think this might have caused too many salts to get trapped in the coco and lead to the plants getting burned. That's my theory at least.

I flushed the ladies very thoroughly with pHed water and let them dry out again over the next days. I removed the leaves with the worst damage.

The Royal Critical and Strawberry Amnesia were both not dramatically burned, so I decided also to continue with the mainlining process on both of these. You can see from the pics, that I now trimmed the two branches just beyond their first node, so that I now have four main growth areas. Again, it was a bit disheartening to see how "bad" the ladies looked after trimming, but I knew they would grow back very healthy again.

In addition, I started to tie down the NL5 as well to control and direct it's growth direction.

Day 56 - Recovering nicely from the nutrient burn (27 Dec 2020)

Yeah, I know, these plants are taking forever in the veg phase! Between whatever problem or illness they had right at the beginning of their lives and then the nutrient burn from me has caused this. But they're recovering nicely, have a great new growth coming in and look like they're going to be strong and healthy!

I also moved all three back into the main grow room. I hope that whatever problem they had when they were small is now solved.

Here some pics of the "burned" NL5:

And here they are in the main grow room (the planst in the back row are Autos which are just finishing off -- I had trouble with those as well but that's another thread!):

Day 60 - Everybody in their new homes for New Years (31 Dec 2020)

So I re-potted the Strawberry Amnesia and NL5 x Haze into their 15 litre pots today to have all the ladies ready to grow like crazy in the New Year! All three are looking good, although they still look a bit haggard from the burn, but they're making progress!

Here all three (front row only) before re-potting:

Day 62 - Happy New Year Ladies / Finished Mainlining (2 Jan 2021)

I finished mainlining the Royal Critical and Strawberry Amnesia today. On both I trimmed the four main shoots just beyond their first nodes again, so I now have 8 nearly identical shoots coming from each plant. I also trimmed and topped the NL5 to keep the growth under control and to make sure it doesn't get much higher than the other two -- I want to have a nice even canopy.

All three have been extensively tied down to control and direct the growth. You can see all the tie-downs on the pics where there are the white and red chain links I use to tie down.

Again, the plants look a bit haggard after performing the third mainlining cut, but I know they will recover quickly after watching how quick they responded after the first two mainlining steps.

I'm back to feeding them according to schedule and am ensuring I get enough run-off. All three are growing like crazy and seem to really like the feeding and the environment.

By the way, the three mature planst you see in the background are all autos from the previous grow, so they have no problem with the 18/6 lighting I'm running right now.

Day 71 - Keeping them trimmed (11 Jan 2021)

What a difference 9 days can make!!! I'll let the pictures speak for themselves on the comparison.

With the explosive growth these babies are having, there is quite a bit to trim away from each lady!

Day 74 - Coming along beautifully (14 Jan 2021)

Now that I've completed mainlining and ties all the ladies down the way I want them to grow, there is really only maintenance to be done...the most work with trimming and ties is done!

The ladies are getting large and thirsty! Right now I'm feeding them their recommended dosage at 100% and they are all drinking about 5 litres every 4-5 days.

Here some data on the feedings and run-off:

Feed: 3 x 5 litres pH 5.7 EC 1520
Run-off Royal Critical: 600ml pH 5.8 EC 1510 (very good I think!)
Run-off Strawberry Amnesia: 500ml pH 5.9 EC 1720 (run-off EC too high -- need to keep an eye on her and dilute next feed)
Run-off NL5 x Haze: 450ml pH 5.8 EC 1470 (also good I think)

In the next days the two auto in the growing area will be ready to harvest and the space will be available for only the three ladies...and it looks like the way they're growing they will need the room!

Here a pic:

Day 75 - Switch to Flower 12/12 (15 Jan 2021)

Switched the ladies over to 12/12 today and started the clock for the flowering. I'm so glad that I grew the photos and not autos again! Even though the veg phase was so long with these ladies, I needed that time to have the girls recover (twice!) and now they look like they are just ready to explode with growth!

New pics coming soon!

Day 81 - Growth Explosion! (21 Jan 2021)

OK, so I'm all caught up again on my postings. Sorry again for being so slow!

The ladies are exploding! After switching to 12/12 six days ago, you can clearly see that they are starting their stretch. They are going to be very nice!

Besides feeding about every 3-4 days (I will likely need to feed again today or tomorrow), there is little to do. I'll likely need to do some trimming, but not very extensively.

As always, I'm more than happy to get feedback or advice from the community!

Here are two pics from about ten minutes ago when the lights came on for today:

Day 81 / Flower Day 7 - Trimming Work (22 Jan 2021)

After the ladies had quiet the growth spurt in the last few days, I though I should trim down some of the wilder growth and make sure the coals are staying clean near the bottom.

They also got fed again:
In pH 5.9 EC 1600
Out Strawberry pH 6.1 EC 1715
Out NL5 pH 6.1 EC 1830 !!
Out Critical pH 6.1 EC 1850 !!

I'll need to reduce the feed concentration on the next feeding because it looks like I'm getting some salt buildup in the coco, but I don't think it's too high to require me to flush.

Here some pics from today.

Day 83 / Flower Day 8 - Some Pot Porn Pictures (23 Jan 2021)

I had forgotten how beautiful and intricate a pot plant can be!

Yesterday I got out the macro lens and did some close-up photography of the ladies. Here is a "pot porn" treat for you!
