Germinating in Water. Do you leave it in water till tap root appears?

K, I'm trying to germinate some seeds. I've got some in a paper towel. And I've put some in the shot glass with water. Now my Q's is do I leave the seeds in the water till they start to sprout roots? or do I just leave it overnight and then put in paper towel? Can I just leave it in the water till the roots bust out? Any insight from experience would be well Appreciated !! Thanx

I have had very good success doing the following:

Step 1. Soak seed(s) in PH adjusted water (5.7-5.8) overnight for about 12-16 hours.

Step 2. Place the pre-soaked seeds into the damp paper towel. Keep covered in a warm environment.

Step 3. Usually, the next day after step 2 - transplant seedling into grow pot
when the tap root is about 1/2" long.

I have had seeds develop tap roots during the 12-16 hour soak, with no issues. However, I would not intentionally let my seeds soak until the tap roots sprouted due to fear of drowning the seed(s)

Hope this helps
