Group Wants to Change Drug Law

Members of the Arkansas Libertarian Party gathered in Fayetteville to discuss changing the state's marijuana laws.

Several party members want to legalize possession of one ounce of pot or less. Many of those in favor have said that by legalizing the drug, the US government would save billions of dollars.

"We're talking 7.5 to 10 billion dollars a year the US government is spending, wasting on incarcerating people for marijuana," said Ryan Denham President, Drug Policy Education Group. "With the economic situation that we're in right now, we can save that amount of money."

Proponents also argue, that the government could generate billions of dollars in tax revenues, if they create a controlled market for marijuana.
