Now I have a 45 watt lamp, I'll have to replace it when a more powerful lamp?

you should be good for now,, but when they get bigger and you need more room, you will need to start adding lights..

The nice thing about CFL's is LOW heat, your lights can be within a few inches of your plants. Look up a grower by the name Roseman, He is a wealth of information on growing with CFL's, not so much soil but he knows his way around a plant.
