ok i had some three year old romulan grapefruit seed. i started in water and paper towels then transferred to jiffy cups
they took a week to clear soil
they had helmet head
i pulled the helmets off with help from hydrogen peroxide spray and tweezers last night
this. mornings they still look a little necrotic and may have some membranes left on the cotyledon
can i do anything to help or just wait for the lights to do their work

Good thinking with the spray and tweezers. You could have used straight water, too. Just setting a drop of water on the tip will usually soften it enough after a few minutes.

It's caused from not planting the seed deeply enough, so it didn't get rubbed off naturally as it came up through the soil. Plant a tad deeper next time.

And get that membrane off too - it'll dry up and kill the seedling. It can be a bit tricky, but a pointy scissor works well. You can usually find a gap to snip the membrane and carefully peel it off. The first leaves (cotyledons) will be just fine once the gear is removed.
