Help! Drying soil medium out to prevent botrytis: bud rot, thanks

I have a theory that drying out your medium, in my case soil, will prevent over humid flowers/plant, ive been trying this technique and seems to be working, its obvious the strain is resistant but i feel its helping. She is still looking happy:) The soil is moist about 3 inches down, going to water a bit soon but wanting to wait til starts to wilt also.

Photos were taken Oct. 3.
Thoughts? Thanks everyone

Well, we know that waiting until we see a "gentle wilting" does not generally harm the plant (and probably encourages a greater, deeper root system).

And when it comes to prevention of maladies... Spores are pretty much everywhere, so it's more a question of providing an environment that discourages them than trying to actually be "spoor-free," (IMHO), at least in a soil environment outdoors.

It's a weed! It does better a little stressed than it does with too much love. I can't tell what media you are using but if it holds water well, like peat/perlite, water by weight. When the pot gets light, water. You can do preventative maintenance like neem treatment to combat molds. That is not an option in late bloom, though.
