It's high time New Yorkers got medical marijuana, even if they're not allowed to legally smoke it. The state opened eight of the outlined 20 weed dispensaries on Jan. 7, joining the nation's 22 other states and D.C. that sell medicinal cannabis. However, New York law only allows non-smokable products that come in liquid form, capsules or concentrate from vaporization.

Nicholas Vita, the CEO of Columbia Care, the first dispensary to open in New York City, said between 200,000 and 400,000 people in the state could qualify for the program. Only patients diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, cancer, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Lou Gehrig's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, neuropathies and spinal cord injuries can legally purchase medical marijuana in New York.

"It's an alternative to prescription pain meds and doesn't have the same issues... but does have a side effect of euphoria," said Vita, who used to work at Goldman Sachs. "The worst that is that it makes you happy, and that's not a bad outcome."

Vita reached that estimate by taking the statistic that qualifying patients make up 1 to 2% of the U.S. population and applied it to the state's population. About 19.7 million people live in New York, according to 2014 U.S. Census data.

He said the average price per dose is $.99. The dosage size depends on a physician's recommendations and the varying illnesses, but Vita said a monthly supply would cost on average between $100 and $300. New York insurers do not cover medical cannabis.

Big deal. Here we have General Cuomo deciding who needs and who deserves his blessing to use cannabis (derivative only) legally. Forget the people who have arthritis, muscular pain issues, migraines, a "depressed" state-of-mind, and all of the other afflictions that cannabis (in its natural plant state) addresses.

Our government refuses to talk honestly to an informed and educated public / society that knows the ins and outs of this plant : its history, its 5000-year no-deaths record, a substance with the MOST medical applications than ANY substance on Earth --- natural or lab-manufactured. They act like society doesn't know the science of this plant and the science of our OWN BODIES having an endocannabinoid system (existing in every mammal on Earth) that utilizes and even PRODUCES the same cannabinoids that are in cannabis.

Our government has taken us for fools for eighty (80) years now.
Guess what?
The jig is up.

No more "Reefer Madness" movies, no more advertising campaigns that spew exaggerations and lies, no more standing up in front of society and expecting them to believe your crap.

The only thing left to do is to vote these agenda-driven liars and opportunists OUT OF OFFICE and find and elect individuals who WORK FOR THE PEOPLE --- not for the Machine.

Yes, the jig is finally up. But one of the BIGGEST challenges still remain ---- getting to the point where this issue is one that everyone is allowed to address through BALLOT INITIATIVES, whereby the voters get to speak and the vote tally determines what course will be taken. Yes, folks, allow the MAJORITY to speak and have their wishes put into action. Sounds a bit like a DEMOCRACY, does it not ???

Here in New York State, we aren't there ---- we aren't even close and won't be until we see a change in command. The General needs to leave this State ---- for good, please...

Peace.
