How to wire up CFL's together

I'm looking to make a CFL fixture using PVC into something like this:

In the places where the sockets would be I'll be using

My questions are:

1) How would I connect multiple sockets to each other to then attach it to something else that I can plug in to run all the lights together? I've read that you can use an extension cord?

2) In connecting all the lights together, what gauge wire would I need to use?
