Freshman Nebraska women's basketball player Natalie Romeo was cited for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana in her dorm room at 10:45 p.m. Friday.

A resident assistant smelled marijuana coming from a room at Eastside Suites on the campus, Sgt. Dave Dibelka said. University police entered the room and found a partially-burned joint in a plastic bag. Romeo, 19, said the joint was hers and turned it over to UNL police, Dibelka said.

Four other UNL students were in the room, but Romeo was the only one cited. Dibelka refused to release the names of the other four students because they were not cited.

Police searched Romeo's room but did not find additional marijuana.

Romeo, of Martinez, California, played in 24 games this season, starting 12, and averaged 9 points per game.
