The president of the Litchfield Land Trust has been charged with marijuana possession because more than a dozen large pot plants were found growing on conservation land.

Torrington attorney Nathan P. Litwin has been charged with possession of marijuana and conspiracy to possess marijuana. Joshua Barbero of Goshen was arrested on the same charges after police say they saw both men picking up pieces of the plants from the ground Thursday.

Police say they found about 15 to 20 six-foot high plants Wednesday after being tipped off.

The plants were located in a remote section of land trust property off a dirt road just west of the Bantam section of town. Police removed more than 130 pounds worth of the plants.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and it hasn't been determined that the marijuana was grown by Litwin and Barbero. The vice president of the land trust says he doesn't believe the two planted it.
