When Massachusetts residents voted for a ballot measure approving medical marijuana earlier this month, they also provided a spark for a growing industry.
Now, competition is expected to be tough for the limited licenses to provide the drug.
Boston Business Journal editor Craig Douglas joined Monday's edition of NECN Business to discuss.
"I think Massachusetts is going to be very different from what we're seeing in California and some of these other states that have adopted medicinal marijuana laws in the past," Douglas said. "There are only 35 licenses that are going to be spread around Massachusetts, at least initially. It's hard to imagine them keeping that cap."
