I’m not having any problems with the distance so far but I read in a thread the other day that being close to the light causes the leaves to grow bigger than usual. Is this a good thing or bad thing, because the top leaves are now maybe 10 inches from the light and are growing massively bigger than any others on the plant.

Yes the closer your lights are to your plants the larger leaf surface it creates.
I keep my lights very close from emerging till harvest.

So it is working for you. If you want you can back it off a few inches but if they are not burning your fine and will be happy you did when you see how big the stems and leaves then buds get from being close.
