A Texas man was arrested on Interstate 65 near Bowling Green after Kentucky State Police found 80 pounds of marijuana packed into metal canisters inside the tires of the sport utility vehicle he was driving.

Arturo G. DeLeon Jr., 62, was taken to the Warren County Regional Jail and charged with trafficking in over five pounds of marijuana, according to Kentucky State Police.

DeLeon was stopped Friday morning because an officer spotted his vehicle weaving and driving too slowly. He was headed north on I-65.

A state police dog named Rex alerted police that there was something near the vehicle’s tires. Police dropped the spare tire on the ground and found it had been overloaded.

DeLeon said he was headed to Ohio from Tyler, Tex., state police said.

The SUV was impounded and a closer inspection of the tires showed metal canisters had been welded to the frame of each tire; each canister held about 20 pounds of pot.
