A man who masterminded a home invasion robbery of an Oregon City medical marijuana grower was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison.

Clifton Bernard Boyd, 30, pleaded guilty in Clackamas County Circuit Court to robbery, burglary, kidnapping and unlawful use of a weapon in the October 2009 incident. Boyd is one of three Lakewood, Wash., men who kicked in the door of a grower's home, held a gun to his head, threatened to kill him and stole and cash marijuana.

The men planned to kill the grower but decided against it after discovering a 12-year-old girl and her 2-year-old twin step-brothers inside the house, according to Senior Deputy District Attorney Scott Healy. "Mr. Boyd was the brains of the operation," Healy said.

Boyd received a reduced sentence as part of a plea agreement that requires him to testify against, Jerome Ray Kennedy, who is accused of participating in the robbery. Kennedy, 31, is in jail in Tacoma awaiting sentencing on March 11 for his role in a drive-by shooting.

A third man, James Wesley Giggy, 25, pleaded guilty to the same charges and received the same plea deal as Boyd.
