A medical marijuana dispensary was busted by the Oakland County sheriff's Narcotics Enforcement Team, (NET), in Ferndale Wednesday night 8-24-2010.

The City of Ferndale had a 3-month moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries, and as soon as it was lifted the bust went down.

"Authorities provided few details about the raid Wednesday evening at Clinical Relief. It came two days after the Ferndale City Council voted to end the community's three-month moratorium on such businesses," reported myFoxdetroit.com.

The business, Clinical Relief, located at 362 Hilton, had opened for businesses in June of this year. The facility is in a 2,500-square-foot store selling 15 to 20 different strains of marijuana. Prices? $500 to $700 an ounce.

"One law enforcement official familiar with the case said the raid at Clinical Relief was part of a series of NET raids conducted Wednesday at different locations in Oakland County and several arrests were made. One raid was at Waterford Township's Everybody's Cafe," reported The Oakland Press.

It is believed by law enforcement authorities that workers at the clinic were illegally selling marijuana.

"Ferndale Police Chief Timothy Collins toured the clinic shortly after it opened and said at the time it appeared to be operating within legal guidelines," according to The Oakland Press.

There were three persons arrested in the raid, two men, and one woman. No mention of who they were.

Co-owner of the store, Ryan Richmond hasn't a clue why they were raided along with his home. Police took patient files, computers, security cameras, along with hunting riles, a laptop, and more patient files in Richmond's home basement.

Richmond also owns a medical marijuana dispensary in Lansing that was not raided.

"Oakland County Sheriff’s Major Bob Smith said the department made arrests and executed search warrants in a major narcotics investigation and will release more information today at 3:30 p.m," reported freep.com.

Any thoughts?

If this turns out to be an investigation into employees selling pot illegally, this hurts the very people that need this substance, and further fuels the already contentious debate about these storefronts opening up in other communities in Michigan.

However, if marijuana were legal, this conversation, article, police resources, and wasted dollars wouldn't even be in the mix right now. But until we find out what really went down at the Clinical Relief, it is best to reserve judgment for now. At least until Oakland County Sheriff Major Bob Smith releaases more info later this afternoon.

Does anyone get the feeling that one hand doesn't know what the other is doing as far as the medical marijuana laws in Michigan are concerned?
