Medical Marijuana Restraint

A medical marijuana caregiver who filed a restraining order against the City of Billings met with the city's top lawyer Friday.

Mort Reid opened his establishment three months ago and is concerned his business will be affected by the city council's moratorium on new medical marijuana storefronts.

Reid's business is located only a few blocks away from Lewis and Clark Middle School. If the council acts on further zoning ordinances then Reid said he will be forced to move.

Billings City Attorney Brent brooks said the city will work to prevent litigation in the future. “With medical marijuana litigation there’s always a possibility. We’re certainly doing legal research and preparing for the worst cases concerning zoning issues that's really what the city is dealing with zoning issues,” said Brooks.

Reid and his attorney are expected to decide next week whether to pursue the restraining order or postpone it.
